About

Hey, I’m Bay. Welcome to our little home! Arrow and Boone Farmstead was created in 2020, when our family was growing and there was a global pandemic at our doorstep. For the first time in my life, I saw the task of homesteading as connected to our actual survival. Grocery stores were lacking in food, people were in a tizzy over toilet paper, and I was wondering how I could quickly acquire all the skills I needed to live without a supply chain.

I knew it was possible, since people had been doing it for thousands of years before the modern age. But I didn’t know the first thing about butchering our own meat or growing our own vegetables from the ground. So, I had to learn, and learn I did.

I basically spent that entire summer outside, learning to humanely process chickens, ducks, rabbits, and quail while my children were in the house with my husband.

The learning was scary and stressful, but it was also exhilarating. I faced fears that I’d never had the stones to face before. Our third child was born the next year and as we continued on this journey, global events shifted our reality. Thanks be to God, we never went hungry; but I was prepared for the possibility.

Now, here we are: 6 years later, still doing what we started. While I’ve had to downsize here and there over the years to avoid total burnout, I’d say we’re doing more now than ever!

I don’t really try to pursue self-sufficiency anymore, but I’m very interested in building a type of community sufficiency because I believe that’s what will actually transform the future for our kids.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you come for a visit again soon!
